The monthly newsletter, which will go live on March 4, takes the latest in social science research on gender equality and makes it accessible and useful to everyone who may need it, whether they’re trying to change their community, their workplace, or the laws of their country. Subscribe here. “No country in the world has achieved gender equality,” said Megan Clement, The Evidence’s editor and a leading feminist journalist. “We cannot close the gender gap if we do not understand it; if we do not put in place systems and policies based on the best available evidence.” From the ongoing fallout of the repeal of Roe v Wade in the United States, to the future of the “green wave” of abortion rights that has swept Latin America in recent years, to the women-led revolution in Iran and the global backlash against the rights of LGBTQIA+ people, questions of inequality dominate the international stage. “If you want to understand what’s happening in the world today, you need to understand gender inequality,” Megan Clement said. “Yet research shows that coverage of gender gaps only comprises 0.2% of global news coverage, and too often the media caravan moves on before the nature of transformative social change is truly understood. The Evidence will inject a much-need expert focus into public conversations about the rights of women and gender-diverse people, drawing on high-quality research to help illuminate solutions to some of the world’s most seemingly intractable inequalities.” Written by veteran science communicator Josephine Lethbridge, The Evidence will appear on the fourth Monday of every month. The first edition focuses on recent findings on the growing political gender gap between the men and women of Generation Z, and what’s driving the trend. It will be provided automatically to subscribers of Impact, the bilingual newsletter launched by Gloria Media in 2021, which covers feminist movements worldwide and has reached a global audience of 28,000 subscribers. The Impact newsletter is financed by the New Venture Fund. Each edition delves into a new facet of gender inequality, and provides inspiration for action by telling the story of a local initiative, project, or policy that effectively addressed the issue illuminated by the research. The Evidence team will comb through the latest findings, insights and breakthroughs in gender inequality research to draw out compelling stories about how we can make the world more equal, from closing the gender pay gap, to sharing the burden of care work, to taking a feminist approach to fighting climate change. There are millions of people all over the world working to advance feminist causes with the goal of building an equal world for future generations: activists, thinkers, writers, politicians, policymakers and creative workers. But too often, insights from the world of research do not reach these people. This means activists and everyday citizens lack the solid evidence they need to make their cases for gender equality, whether those cases are brought before parliament, in workplaces or within families. “The Evidence will take knowledge that is too often hidden behind academic paywalls and make it accessible to everyone,” Josephine Lethbridge said. The Evidence is generously supported by Sage, an independent, mission-driven academic publisher committed to supporting quality research that transforms society. “Sage is proud to announce the launch of ‘The Evidence: Everything You Need to Know about Gender Inequality in One “Under the skilled and passionate journalistic vision of Megan Clement, known for her deep engagement with issues of gender inequality, and the adept skills of Josephine Lethbridge in making academic ideas accessible we are confident that this monthly newsletter will serve as a pivotal tool in addressing the persistent challenge of gender inequality.
